The Birth of Max

On September 5, 2014, after spending nearly 30 hours at the hospital with one of my dearest friends, I was honored to meet one of the sweetest and most beautiful babies I have ever laid eyes on.

Max’s sweet mama labored for DAYS and met every obstacle with grace, strength and an open mind. She trusted herself and her wonderful husband, her team and her God.

There were highs and lows, smiles and tears and many, many prayers. In the end the only thing that mattered to Mary was that she had a healthy and perfect little guy.

I love the fact that Mary labored in the same room I birthed Gideon in in 2013!  Although Mary ended up birthing darling Max via C-section their story is every bit as beautiful and remarkable as any I’ve had the privilege to capture or see elsewhere.

I know these memories are so, so treasured.  Mary even has a few canvases hung in her home from this day.

I’ve heard many times from moms who are birthing via scheduled or repeat cesarean (or even induction!) that they don’t think there is a point to hiring a birth photographer.  For Max’s birth I was not allowed in the OR and they wouldn’t even let dad take in my camera, or any other.  I hope this story conveys that even though Max’s first breath wasn’t photographed, the memories leading up to it and immediately following it are absolutely priceless!
